Stargirl, also known as Courtney Whitmore, is a DC Comics superheroine. She first appeared in Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E. #0 in July 1999.
Created by Geoff Johns and Lee Moder, Courtney's origin is tied to her stepfather, Pat Dugan (formerly Stripesy), who was the sidekick to the Star-Spangled Kid. Courtney discovers the Star-Spangled Kid's gear and uses it, prompting Pat to build the S.T.R.I.P.E. armor to protect her.
She wields the Cosmic Staff, granting her powers of energy projection, flight, and enhanced agility. Stargirl has been a member of various superhero teams, including the Justice Society of America.
